Healthy Caribbean Coalition - Response to e-cigarette promotion in Jamaica

<< back to Tobacco Control index

e-cigarettes are dangerous

Two formal responses from members of the Jamaica Coalition for Tobacco Control, Drs. Buckland and Williams-Green, to the local promotion of electronic/e-cigarettes. Dr. Buckland's letter exposed the significant omissions from the recent e-cigarette advertisement August 15th 2010 (shown here on the left of the page) that has been making the rounds of local newspapers.

Dr. Aldyth Buckland is the President of the Association of General Practitioners; Dr. Pauline Williams-Green is the President of the Caribbean College of Family Physicians. Read or Download (save target/link as)  Dr. Bucklands response here (PDF)

Dr. Williams-Green has a regular health column and her article, today, (http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20100825/health/health2.html) was great reinforcement to Dr. Buckland's rebuttal. Read or download (save target/link as) Dr. Williams-Greens' article (PDF)

Responses such as these from our network of tobacco control/public health advocates are critical to maintaining vigilance against the misleading claims and promotions of tobacco interests as well as deepening public awareness.
